For over a decade I was the entire digital department at Tibet Relief Fund: rebuilding the website twice and the shop once, running email campaigns, acquiring new supporters, managing online donations and sponsorship, operating a physical product e-commerce shop, and migrating hundreds of thousands of data points between CRM systems.
During my time there online donation income increased 253%, online donors up 180%, online sponsorship revenue up 287%, new supporter acquisition up 42% with 72.6% coming through the shop alone. I developed all four social media channels, Instagram and YouTube from scratch: Instagram grew 2,131%, Facebook 277%, YouTube 375%, Twitter/X 833%, and one video I produced reached 250,000 views organically on a page of 4,231 followers. Email lists grew 154% to over 10,000 contacts with 20-30% open rates, and Facebook ad campaigns on the shop delivered a 3.6:1 return on ad spend.
Before TRF, I spent years in digital across mobile app development and agency work. I know what it actually feels like to be the only digital person in a small organisation, doing everything with a small team and a smaller budget. I built Digital for Charities to share what I have learned, and to give small charity teams access to the kind of practical digital knowledge that usually only larger organisations can afford.
